Destroy Babylon - Long Live the Vortex

Naturally this mag is interested in a band also named after an early Bad Brains song. Perhaps we both can go Sailin’ On to the Attitude bar and get arrested by the Riot Squad? For whites from New England, DB play such a fluid dubby-reggae style, they sound more like original early ’70s Jamaicans (they deserved their bill with Lee “Scratch” Perry) than the more clunky rock-reggae forays of the 1977 Clash or reggae-rock iteration of 1980 Bad Brains, when both first added it to their repertoire. (Both got much better at it later.) DB are more like The Ruts/Ruts D.C. (Mad Professor should produce them!): absolutely skilled, soulfully political (good on ’em), and riding all the right horns and harmonies. But do they smoke ganga? I think I smell it in their grooves. (destroybabylon.com)
